Il Borro estate is a beautiful country resort situated in the middle of the Tuscan countryside and near to the most important cities of the Chianti area: only 40 min to Florence, 40 min to Siena and 20 min to Arezzo.
Since 1993 the estate is the property of the Ferragamo family who have, after 11 years, carefully restored this precious property to provide a maximum level of comfort for the guests.
In the middle of a fertile Tuscan plain at the feet of the Pratomagno mountains (up to 1591 m a.s.l.) is a small medieval village called il Borro. The village, which is built on a spur of rock over the remains of an ancient fortress can only be reached by a high narrow bridge overlooking the Loreno stream far below. Prolific wildlife elegantly surrounds the village perched up on the hill… almost seeming to hold it up.
The WINE
The estate which extends from Valdarno, to the feet of the Pratomagno mountains, enjoys a highly privileged position in regard to the production of fine wines. The terrain was modelled by the movements of the great lakes which covered the entire area millions of years ago, geologic origins which have strongly influenced both the composition and shape of the land. These were decisive points in the selection of the vines, which was done by the oenologist Nicolò D’Afflitto in 1993 after extensive analyses of the soils and diverse terrain; seeking out the optimum conditions for the five varieties of vine grown on the farm, with vineyard that now cover over 40 hectares.
