POMPEII – NAPLES – SORRENTO After breakfast, you will depart on a full-day guided visit to Pompeii and Naples, including a visit to the archaeological excavations. Beyond Naples, we see the city of Pompeii, sitting in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius. You meet with your local guide at the entrance of the excavations for a guided tour of the site. Pompeii was built in 7 B.C. and lasted until 79 A.D, when it was overcome by Vesuvius’ eruption of rock and ash. The city disappeared from the maps for nearly 1,700 years. Rediscovered in the 18th century it was clear that the volcanic ash had preserved a good deal of the lost city. Afterwards, enjoy a guided tour of Naples that includes Santa Lucia, Castel dell' Ovo, the French fortress, Piazza Plebiscito and the Royal Palace, before returning to your hotel in Sorrento.
