Stop by Blarney Castle to kiss the Blarney stone – said to enhance the gift of gab – on your way to courses with spectacular settings. You'll both stay and play at the luxurious Blarney Resort, one of Ireland's top golf resorts, located in the stunning Shournagh Valley of County Cork. You'll know two-time Major winner and infamous "big hitter" John Daly had a hand in the design of the 18-hole parkland course, opened in 2006, when you experience such Blarney challenges as a 601-yard par 5. Enjoy ocean views from all 18 holes at Old Head Golf Links in Kinsale, County Cork, a par 72 course opened in 1997 on a peninsula that juts out into the Atlantic. The extra special 4th hole impressively plays into a green on the edge of a cliff. Check out the ancient ruins at the 7th tee, which date back to the Aryan Celtic tribe.
At Killarney, founded in 1893 and one of the oldest and most internationally recognized clubs in the world, you'll play the flagship Killeen Course with a backdrop of lakes and mountains – the course is located on the breathtaking Ring of Kerry. Reopened in 2006 with slightly longer and faster greens, Killeen played host to the Irish Open in 2010 and 2011. Beware the par three 10th hole which virtually plays into a lake. Fota Island Golf Club in Cork Harbour offers the fun of catching a passenger ferry to get to a championship course, opened amidst woodlands in 1993 on an island that also has a wildlife park.
