You come to Scotland for play on historic courses in the true home of golf. But you bring back lasting memories of unbelievable challenges combined with incomparable views. At the 7th hole on the historic No. 1 Course at Gulllane Golf Club in East Lothian, for instance, you can see all the way across the Firth of Forth to Edinburgh and Fife. But don't get distracted. The sea breezes and numerous bunkers require your attention at the British Open qualifying course. Near Dundee, Carnoustie has been home to golf play since the 16th century and more recently particularly dramatic Open Championship play. Many regard the links course not only as one of the best in the world but also one of the most challenging, especially when the wind blows – hence the nickname "car-nasty."
You'll head into The Highlands, where the breathtaking scenery includes Loch Ness (home of the namesake monster), for play at legendary Royal Dornoch, considered original home of the raised green design. At the 13th tee, the venue, with its mountain backdrop and threatening gorse, can be seen in all its glory. You'll see why Royal Dornoch is ranked 16th on Golf Magazine's 2011 Top 100 courses in the world. At Glasgow Gailes on the Ayrshire coast, you'll find a challenging links course designed by Willie Park Jr. in 1912. Now a qualifying course for the Open Championship, it's owned and managed by the Glasgow Golf Club, the ninth oldest golf club in the world. Play too at the legendary Royal Troon in South Aryshire, founded in 1878, and hailed as one of the greatest links courses in Scotland. Here you'll play the Old Course with its famous, par three, 123-yard "Postage Stamp" hole.
