Combine golf play on classic and modern quintessentially Irish courses with 5-star accommodations in Dublin, where you can enjoy the city's nightlife and such must-do attractions as the Guinness Storehouse. You'll be able to match your wits with Arnold Palmer at The K Club in County Kildare. The Palmer Course, designed by the golf great, was home to the Ryder Cup in 2006, and is considered one of the finest parkland courses in Europe. Find challenges aplenty, especially if there's wind, as you head to County Wicklow for play at The European Club. The 20-hole oceanfront Pat Ruddy-designed links course opened in 1993 and features rugged dunes and dramatic views of the Irish Sea. The long par four 7th hole was named by Golf Magazine as one of the World's Best Holes.
Just outside the city, embrace history at Portmarnock, a links course established in 1894, that has hosted all the Irish Majors. You'll get another classic experience at Island Golf Club, a championship links course at the mouth of an estuary – until 1973, duffers had to take boats to reach the links. Dating to 1890, the course features play mostly on dune ridges surrounded by wetlands and wildflowers. We're talking real, old fashioned, high dunes golf.
